What it does

Payment Rules at a glance.

  • Hide, rename, or reorder payment methods at checkout

  • Same condition system as Shipping Rules — cart, geo, tags, collections

  • Common: hide BNPL on small carts, expose Net 30 only for wholesale

  • UI-driven — no Shopify Function code to write or deploy

vs. Shopify B2B native

Where this stands against native.

Shopify B2B native

Shopify’s Payment Customization exists but using it requires writing a Function. There’s no native UI for hide / rename / reorder.

BTB

UI-driven rule builder. Same condition types as Shipping Rules. Hide, rename, or reorder payment methods at checkout.

Setup

Live in 3 steps.

All configured from the BTB dashboard — no code, no theme edits for the common case.

  1. 01

    Pick conditions

Same condition types as Shipping Rules: cart amount, product count, country, province, ZIP, customer tags, collection. AND / OR matching.

  2. 02

    Pick actions

Hide / rename / reorder payment methods. Target by partial name match (e.g. "PayPal" matches "PayPal Express"). Stack multiple actions in one rule.

  3. 03

    Set customer targeting (optional)

All customers / customer with tag / lifetime-spend threshold. Tag and spend conditions require a logged-in customer; for guests, use the all-customers condition.

Common use cases

How merchants use Payment Rules.

  • Setup

    Hide BNPL on small carts

Klarna / Affirm / Afterpay hidden when cart is below $100 to avoid fees.

  • Setup

    Wholesale-only Net 30

Show Net 30 payment terms only for buyers tagged wholesale.

  • Setup

    Renamed for clarity

Rename "PayPal Pay Later" to "Buy Now, Pay in 4" so buyers understand the option.

FAQ

Common questions

Does this support payment fees or surcharges?
Not today — only hide / rename / reorder. Surcharges and processing fees aren't part of Shopify's Payment Customization API, so adding them would need a different mechanism. On the roadmap.
Do payment rules work for guests?
Yes for the 'all customers' condition. Tag and lifetime-spend conditions need a logged-in customer — guests fail those by design. If you want a rule that targets 'any logged-in customer' regardless of tag, set a lifetime-spend rule with a threshold of $0.
Why might I rename a payment method?
Common reasons: shorter B2B-friendly names ('Net 30' instead of the wallet provider's full marketing name); branded names ('Acme Wholesale Net' instead of generic 'Payment Terms'); regional clarity ('PayPal (EU)' for European-checkout buyers).
Does this work on every Shopify plan?
Yes. BTB works on Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus — the same underlying platform BTB is built on.
Do I need Shopify B2B Companies to use this?
No. BTB targets customers by tag on the regular Shopify storefront — no Companies, no separate B2B checkout. If you also use Shopify B2B, BTB layers on top.
Which BTB plan includes Payment Rules?
Payment Rules ships on the Advanced plan ($29 / mo). Both plans include a 7-day free trial.
