Shopify B2B without Plus: native vs. apps

Since April 2026 you don't need Shopify Plus to sell B2B on Shopify. Here's what native B2B includes on each plan, what's still Plus-only, what Plus costs, and where a wholesale app like BTB covers what native doesn't.

Updated September 29, 2026

Short answer: you no longer need Shopify Plus for B2B. Since April 2, 2026, Shopify’s Basic, Grow and Advanced plans include native B2B at no extra cost: company profiles, up to 3 active B2B catalogs, quantity rules, volume pricing, net payment terms, ACH (US only) and vaulted credit cards. Plus still adds unlimited catalogs, direct catalog assignment to companies, deposits and partial payments. A wholesale app is now about what native B2B doesn’t do. That means tag-based rules without Company records, a storefront quote form, a catalog-wide quick order page, price gating, and cart-level order limits.

How the core pieces work

Company accounts

Native B2B is built on companies. Each company has one or more locations, each location has its own buyers (contacts), permissions, payment terms and catalogs. A customer only gets B2B pricing once they’re attached to a company location. That’s the right structure for a sales-managed buyer base. It’s also one more record to create for every wholesale account.

Catalogs and price lists

A catalog is Shopify’s price list: it sets which products a B2B buyer can see and what they pay, either as a percentage adjustment or as fixed prices. It also carries quantity rules and volume pricing. When several catalogs apply to one buyer, the lowest price wins. On Basic, Grow and Advanced you get up to 3 active catalogs across your B2B markets. Plus removes the cap and lets you assign a catalog directly to one company or location.

Payment terms and payment options

Payment terms are set per company or per location: net 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 days, due on fulfillment, or a fixed date (draft orders only). Buyers can pay with a vaulted card, ACH (US only), or a manual method such as bank transfer. Deposits need Plus.

Where native B2B stops

These are the limitations merchants hit most often, whatever plan they’re on:

  1. Every buyer needs a Company record. Catalog pricing, quantity rules and volume pricing only reach a buyer through a company location. You can’t just tag a retail customer “wholesale”.
  2. Rules follow catalogs, not customer tags. To give two buyer groups different minimums or price breaks you need two catalogs, and non-Plus plans stop at 3.
  3. No storefront request-a-quote form. Buyers who want a custom price still email you.
  4. The Quick order list works per product. It’s a variant grid on a product page, not a page where buyers search the whole catalog and fill a 50-SKU cart.
  5. No built-in price gating. Hiding prices or Add to Cart from guests until they log in takes theme code or an app.
  6. No cart-wide minimums. Quantity rules are set per product. A cart-level quantity or order-value minimum takes a custom Shopify Function or an app.

How BTB covers each piece on any plan

BTB is a Shopify app that works on every Shopify plan, alongside native B2B or without it. Here’s how its 10 features map to the native pieces above, including where BTB is not the answer.

Advanced ($29/mo) adds Quote Form, Store Lock, Wholesale Discount Codes, vendor and variant order limits, and Payment and Shipping Rules. Both have a 7-day free trial. See pricing.

Shopify Plus pricing

Shopify Plus is the plan you’d move to for unlimited catalogs, direct company catalogs, or deposits. According to Shopify’s help center (as of September 2026):

  • $2,300 USD per month on a 3-year term, for standard setups and integrations.
  • $2,500 USD per month on a 1-year term.
  • Variable platform fee for more complex, higher-volume businesses, based on revenue and business model. Shopify says it differs for B2B and D2C orders.
  • If you use a third-party payment gateway instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify charges 0.20% per transaction (Shopify Plus pricing).
  • Your main store plus 9 expansion stores are included in the platform fee.

Is Plus worth it for B2B? Upgrade when you’ve hit a Plus-only wall: more than 3 active catalogs, catalogs assigned to individual companies, or deposits and partial payments. Don’t upgrade just to get tag-based wholesale rules, a quote form, or a quick order page. None of those come with Plus, and apps cover them on any plan.

Which setup fits your store

  • Native B2B alone: you sell to a small number of accounts, you want net terms and Company-level structure, and up to 3 price lists is enough.
  • Native B2B plus BTB: you want native payment terms and storefront workflows like the Quote Form, Quick Order Form or Store Lock. BTB’s Wholesale Pricing rules can target Shopify B2B companies directly.
  • BTB alone: you want wholesale pricing, MOQs and order limits on your existing retail store by customer tag, with no Company records to maintain.

FAQ

Shopify B2B — common questions

Is Shopify B2B only available on Shopify Plus?
Not any more. On April 2, 2026 Shopify brought core B2B features to the Basic, Grow and Advanced plans at no extra cost: company profiles, up to 3 active B2B catalogs, quantity rules, volume pricing, net payment terms, ACH (US only) and vaulted credit cards. Unlimited catalogs, direct catalog assignment to companies, deposits and partial payments remain Plus-only.
How many B2B catalogs can I have without Plus?
Up to 3 active B2B catalogs across all your B2B markets on Basic, Grow and Advanced. Shopify Plus has no catalog limit and also lets you assign catalogs directly to a company or company location.
Does Shopify B2B support net payment terms on non-Plus plans?
Yes. Net 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 90, due on fulfillment, and fixed-date terms are set per company or company location. Payment reminders, vaulted credit cards and ACH (US only) are on Basic and up. Deposits, partial payments and payment per fulfillment need Plus. BTB doesn't offer payment terms — use native Shopify B2B for that.
How much does Shopify Plus cost?
Shopify's help center lists Shopify Plus at $2,300 USD per month on a 3-year term or $2,500 USD per month on a 1-year term, for standard setups. More complex, higher-volume businesses can be moved to a variable platform fee based on revenue, which Shopify says differs for B2B and D2C orders. Pricing as of September 2026.
What are the main limitations of Shopify B2B?
Pricing, quantity rules and volume pricing live inside catalogs, and catalogs apply to buyers through Company records, so every wholesale buyer needs a Company. Non-Plus plans cap you at 3 active catalogs. Shopify B2B also doesn't ship a storefront request-a-quote form, a catalog-wide bulk order page (its Quick order list works per product), price or store gating for guests, or cart-wide order minimums.
Can I use BTB and native Shopify B2B together?
Yes. BTB's Wholesale Pricing rules can target a customer tag, lifetime spend, login state, or a Shopify B2B company and company location, so you can keep native B2B for payment terms and Company accounts and layer BTB's Quote Form, Quick Order Form, Store Lock and order limits on top.
